Heyford Singers

Heyford Singers is a community choir formed in 2002 in Nether Heyford.   The idea emerged from the wish of a couple of local ladies – who still play an important part in managing the affairs of the choir – to have something else in the community which would not only provide an opportunity for social contact but would also give many people the chance to sing in a less formal setting than exists in many choirs, which concentrate on ‘serious’ music.

Since 2002 the choir has grown and now has over 50 members who are drawn from various villages, as well as a few members from Northampton and Daventry.   It performs in two productions each year - two concerts at Christmastime, and two more in the Spring, one of which is raise funds for the Baptist Church and the Parish Church.

Rehearsals in Nether Heyford Village Hall, which are serious but relaxed occasions, alternate between Thursday and Friday each week, between September and May.   The choir believes that fun plays a large part in the creation of pleasure from singing - and exercises this philosophy frequently.

The Musical Director is distinguished and talented local musician and conductor, Mary Rice, and since the beginning she has molded a disparate group of singers and would-be-singers into a choir which has, justifiably, gained a reputation for producing  varied programmes, coupled with consistently first class performances.

An early decision to support local and national charities from raffles held at concert time, has resulted in almost £6000 being donated over the past eight years.

Although we currently have a full complement of sopranos, altos and basses, like many other choirs we would warmly welcome tenors to supplement the section, which has recently been reduced in number as singers have become unavailable for various reasons.

If you are interested (to sing in any part, but particularly in the tenor section) please contact Mary Rice on 01327 340101 or Maureen Wright on 01327 340789

Next Event

Following the success of the last Saturday morning musical event, Heyford Singers are holding another on Saturday 3rd March.   This time the accent will be on ‘olde time’ Music Hall music.   Familiar, easy to sing songs from way-back - and if you don’t want to sing, come along anyway, enjoy a cup of coffee and listen to the music.

Singing will, as usual, be conducted by our own, our very own Mary Rice, ably abetted and assisted by bright, breezy and bubbly Barbara Brogden at the piano and the sagacious, simply sanguine Singers – singing like songbirds.     As a special treat we will also be entertained by cheeky, cheerful chirpy children from Bliss School – Oliver! Oliver! Oliver!

Why not join us for a morning of mirth, merriment and magnificence but mainly music!

Doors will be opened at 10.00am and will remain open, unless the law steps in because of the noise, until 1.00pm

Admission is £2.00 (Children free) Coffee is included in the price. Proceeds to be donated to singers’ charities.
